• Day 16: Copenhagen

This morning we walked over to Wulff & Konstali for brunch.

It was raining off/on, at some times quite heavily, when we woke up but thankfully by the time we were ready to head to brunch the rain stopped. We ate outside. The food was great. I had the best cinnamon roll I’ve ever had and nearly every other dish was awesome as well.

From there we went to the closest playground for Pops where she had fun. It’ll be interesting to see how she handles the playgrounds here which are a bit more “open to interpretation” than what she’s used to. For example this one was mostly climbing stuff she couldn’t really do, but she still had a blast on the pretend raft and in the sandbox.

She had a meltdown on the way home because we wouldn’t carry her (we didn’t have her stroller) but we made it back and she chilled out before nap.

After nap we took the metro over to the playground at the Danish Architecture Center because it looked cool and was close to our dinner reso. It was a bit of a bust though, more stuff she was either too small or too cautious to interact with. We did find a smaller playground nearby though that was more her speed.

Our reservation was at 5 at Hidden Dimsum. Not sure what I was expecting exactly but it was also surprisingly good. They had learner chopsticks for Poppy which was cute (her first time!). After dinner we grabbed some gelato in the square before heading back home. A very successful first full day in Copenhagen.

The weather held up all day. It definitely goes from hot to cool fast when the clouds roll in, but that’s no big deal as long as we can will away the rain that’s still forecasted.

  • Not much to report on today, it was our travel day from Paris to Copenhagen. The day went about as smoothly as it could have.

The only minor hiccup was getting into our Airbnb. We forgot about Floor 0 and tried to get into the apartment one floor lower than we should’ve. Thankfully the man whose apartment we were trying to break into was very friendly and steered us towards the floor above.

We got in around 8:40 so only had time to get comfortable, go to the corner store for some provisions and play a bit before bed. The apartment seems lovely so far and the neighbourhood looks great. Here’s hoping we luck out again on our accommodations.

Weather is still looking iffy the next several days. We’ll see how things go.

  • Day 14: Paris

Our last full day here. This morning Poppy and I went on a walk for patisseries and coffee while Jill did some packing. More delightful treats were enjoyed by all.

Later in the morning we all went out and picked up another pair of pants and a sweater for Poppy. Copenhagen’s weather looks really wet and chilly for at least the next few days… here’s hoping that turns around.

Before nap it felt like Poppy had hit a bit of a wall. She didn’t want to play much at the playground and then was really moody around lunch time.

Thankfully she was much more agreeable after nap so we decided to hop on the metro and head to Le Marais. We started at a playground of course, and this one had a bunch of sand. She really enjoyed digging with some of the cups and toys that were lying around. From there we went to an early dinner at Les enfants du marché. Every dish was great. Poppy ate some squid karaage and some of our whitefish (meagre, similar to sea bass) so we considered that a win on all sides.

We even had a Clovis Ochin sighting while we were eating. He was hanging out in the market too.

A bit of a stroll after dinner then back home on the metro. We’ll leave our place around 2 tomorrow so we have the morning for one last café visit and to finish packing.

Last video is a guy who walks around our neighbourhood rocking the harmonica. I’ll miss him. It’s been a slice Paris.

  • Day 13: Paris

We started the morning with a mediocre breakfast at Bonne Heure. From there we walked over to a playground for Poppy to burn off some of that smoothie energy. She had some bumps and bruises at the playground this go ‘round which put her in a bit of a mood. She was having a great morning earlier.

We intended to do a bit of shopping on the way home but called it after one kid’s store because Poppy wasn’t in to it. We got her a giant strawberry macaron on the way home which appeased her for the time being.

Her nap started around 1:30 and afterwards she was still a bit off. She was particularly clingy to Jill this afternoon, so the two of them went out together to run a couple errands while I started packing back at the apartment.

Our dinner was at nearby Sornettes which was incredibly good. I’m not sure how to describe the food… tapas style but with Mediterranean and Asian thrown into the mix. Poppy even ate two whole croquettes to herself (in addition to some of our shoestring potatoes) which was great to see. Not the most balanced meal but we’ll take it.

Hopefully we’ll get one last trip into the city centre tomorrow around our packing. We’ll see!

  • Day 12: Paris

Another day, another morning of sweet treats. Today I went here for truly awesome pain au chocolat, some kind of apple turnover thing, a chocolate eclair, and a pistachio cake similar to an entremet.

So many killer boulangeries and patisseries in our neighbourhood.

Jill went out for a Pilates class this morning so Poppy and I chilled at the apartment then went out to meet her for a brunch after class. I had scrambled eggs, and yes the French know their way around a plate of eggs.

After nap we took the metro over to this park (a top notch playground) with the intention of grabbing an early dinner at Comptoir Sur Mer but there was no space for us when we got there. We were so close, but there was a large group taking up all the outside tables otherwise I think we would’ve had a shot.

We have been learning though, so we had a nearby backup plan that we activated: Les Parigots.

Thankfully it was quite delicious. I had beef tartare, Jill had the entrecôte, and we shared some pork croquettes. Poppy had some of our fries 🙃.

After dinner we walked through Place de la République on our way to ice cream. They had a play area set up with different board games, Lego, and bikes for kids. We stopped for a few minutes while Poppy played Lego and I couldn’t believe it, but they had a crokinole board out for folks to play! Nobody was using it of course, but it’s certainly not something I expected to see in France.

We made it to Folderol for ice cream and wine on the street. Poppy had red berries, Jill had Biscoff cheesecake and I had olive oil. All were delicious. Kids get to skip the line and she got a sticker and some temporary tattoos.

Then a short walk along the canal before heading home on the metro.

Hard to believe we only have a couple days left here.
